Zach came out as gay at an early age. In 2003 he was the first gay person to come out in middle school in his hometown of Madison, CT. With a new found confidence in himself and desire to help others, Zach volunteered as a public speaker throughout Connecticut with the Anti-Defamation League and PFLAG to help educators, parents, and community members learn how to make their middle and high schools safe spaces for LGBT youth. Zach used his time to support local HIV/AIDS organizations in Fairfield County, CT with a variety of fundraisers.
Zach was also featured in the New York Times with his family in the Parenting section, as well as ABC's 20/20 when they discussed the possibility of a "gay gene".
Coming out in middle school wasn't easy, but Zach believes the experience helped him grow and mature at a young age.
